Nature deficit once again is making national headlines. An article in this week's Washington Post about "indoor kids" highlights the issue, and discusses the gaining political momentum surrounding it. Now, children's advocates, politicians and a host of concerned professionals from a variety of fields are chiming in on this important issue. This acknowledgement is an important step in legislative action being taken on behalf of the health and well-being of today's kids.

I love to get my girls outside to play, but with the heat during the summer > 100 daily, I am concerned for their overall health. Any comment?

Nature Deficit is definitely a growing problem in our nation. I read the article in the Washington post and as I read, I was certainly glad that money is being raised to fund an initiative to get kids outdoors, but I also feel that it is very sad that we have to raise money for something parents should already be giving their kids when we could be raising the money for the homeless, hungry and health aid. Something so easy has to be placed in the hands of caring groups of "officials" instead of parents (Heaven forbid) spending a small portion of their day taking their kids outside.
